CAF Formal Notice to FEGAFOOT Regarding AFCON 2025 Equipment
The Gabonese Football Federation is under maximum pressure from the Confederation of African Football just before the AFCON 2025 in Morocco.
T he Confederation of African Football (CAF) sent a formal notice to the Gabonese Football Federation (FEGAFOOT), dated November 19, 2025, concerning the non-compliance with the regulations relating to sports equipment for the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON, Morocco 2025.
The main subject of the dispute is the new kit manufacturer announced by Gabon, whose received samples bear the brand GABOMA.
Major Non-Compliance Issues : CAF raises multiple non-compliances and shortcomings, particularly regarding the contract and the brand itself: • Non-Compliant Contract: The transmitted kit manufacturer contract is not signed by FEGAFOOT and does not clearly specify the parties involved and their roles. • Non-Approved Brand: The GABOMA brand is not listed in any official register of approved kit manufacturers by CAF and FIFA. • Counterfeiting Risk: The equipment's logo shows a strong similarity to that of the AIRNESS brand, which could lead to a risk of confusion, moral prejudice, and classify the equipment as counterfeit. • Inferior Quality: The received samples also show quality non-compliances, particularly a fabric that does not meet the standards required by CAF.
Urgent Demand and Penalties Incurred : CAF set a deadline of November 21, 2025, for the submission of the missing elements, including the previous contract termination agreement, the call for tenders, and the legal certifications of the new brand (certificate of authenticity, ISO certifications, patent registration). CAF warns FEGAFOOT about the heavy financial penalties incurred if the equipment is classified as non-original, non-regulatory, and non-official. These penalties are cumulative per match during the competition and will be deducted from bonuses and subsidies: • Minimum Fine: The use of non-validated equipment is penalized with a minimum fine of $150,000 USD. • Counterfeiting: Any team forced to play with non-original equipment incurs a financial penalty ranging from $150,000 USD to $300,000 USD per match.
As it stands, FEGAFOOT is ordered to comply with the regulations "without delay" to avoid the firm application of these sanctions.
