Work at a standstill for five months at the Nzeng-Ayong Roundabout
Launched in May 2025 to replace three corroded culverts with a concrete structure, the construction site at the Nzeng-Ayong roundabout is currently abandoned, plunging motorists and local residents into exasperation.
T he work to replace three culverts at the Nzeng-Ayong Roundabout, which was announced to last two months, has been at a standstill for several weeks. The company in charge of the site, which reportedly pre-financed the start of the work, is still waiting for payment from the State to continue the construction. This confusing situation, with no official communication, is severely penalizing traffic and worrying the residents.
A Project Announced as Urgent: In May 2025, authorities had ordered the closure of the road at the Nzeng-Ayong Roundabout, following the discovery of severely corroded culverts threatening the safety of motorists. Presented as a priority project, the reinforcement of this section was supposed to last two months, according to the official tender notice installed on site. For local residents, this rapid intervention seemed indispensable at the time.
Five Months Later, a Deserted Site: To everyone's surprise, the supposedly temporary construction site has turned into a prolonged interruption. For several weeks, no machinery is visible, no team is at work, and the site resembles an abandoned lot. The work, despite being announced as urgent, has not progressed beyond its initial phase, leaving total uncertainty about its resumption.
A Company That Reportedly Pre-financed the Start of the Work: According to the statements of some laborers, reported to the merchants installed near the site, the commencement of the construction would have been pre-financed by the company GIGS, which is responsible for its execution. However, the State reportedly did not honor its share of the financing, leading to a gradual suspension of activities. Lacking resources, the company was reportedly forced to completely halt the work, which is now left idle, with an execution rate estimated at only 10%.
Heavy Consequences for Motorists: The prolonged closure of the road section causes serious traffic jams every day. Motorists and taxis must take long detours to bypass the roundabout, overloading adjacent roads that are already saturated. For many residents, the situation is becoming untenable: delays, increased transport costs, repeated irritation. The lack of official information heightens the frustration.
Silence from the Authorities and Persistent Questions: Faced with a construction site paralyzed for nearly six months, one question dominates: who must answer for this situation? Neither the administration in charge of road infrastructure nor the company has, for the moment, provided a public explanation. This opacity fuels criticism and calls for urgent clarification. In the meantime, users are left to fend for themselves. To be continued.
