President OLIGUI Meets with Gabonese Students in Guinea
H.E. Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema Announces Strong Measures for Gabonese Students in Conakry
O n the sidelines of his official visit to the Republic of Guinea, the President of the Gabonese Republic, H.E. Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, organized a meeting with Gabonese students residing in Conakry to hear their concerns directly.
The young compatriots primarily raised three major issues: recurrent delays in the payment of student scholarships, the lack of adequate health coverage, and the diplomatic void related to the absence of a Gabonese representation on Guinean soil. These difficulties, which were a source of great insecurity for the student diaspora, hampered their full academic and personal development.
Receptive to these grievances, the Head of State announced a series of concrete measures to remedy the situation without delay:
• The forthcoming opening of a Gabonese embassy in Conakry, thus fulfilling a political will for strong diplomatic ties between the two nations. Concurrently, Guinea will open an embassy in Gabon, strengthening bilateral cooperation.
• The immediate settlement of scholarship arrears, guaranteeing students regular and reliable financial support.
• The granting of new scholarships, particularly targeting priority sectors such as health and technical training, to strengthen national expertise in these strategic fields.
Beyond the financial and institutional measures, President Oligui Nguema made a point of commending the remarkable patriotism and exemplary resilience shown by these students in an often difficult context. He reiterated that the Gabonese diaspora, through its commitment and determination, remains an essential driving force in the construction of the new Gabon—a pillar of the country's development and international influence.
This meeting demonstrates a clear desire by the Gabonese executive to closely involve its compatriots abroad in the national development, recognizing their strategic role in the dynamic of progress. The strengthening of diplomatic ties, combined with increased attention to the concrete needs of the students, marks a decisive turning point in the policy of integration and support for Gabonese citizens in the diaspora.
