Trump threatens to leave NATO :
Washington ready to break with its allies.
D onald Trump is not mincing his words. In an interview with the Daily Telegraph published this Wednesday, April 1st, 2026, the American president said he is seriously considering pulling the United States out of NATO, accusing several allies of abandoning Washington during the recent military operation against Iran.
I have never been convinced by NATO,” Trump declared, calling the alliance a “paper tiger” and adding that even Vladimir Putin is aware of it. According to him, countries such as France, Italy, and Spain refused to allow their airspace to be used or their bases to serve for transporting military equipment to Israel, thereby weakening the American position in the conflict.
In response to these criticisms, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer firmly defended NATO: ‘The alliance has guaranteed our security for decades, and we remain fully committed to it.
But with Trump ready to take action, the credibility and unity of the transatlantic Alliance are being seriously tested, and the world is witnessing an America more isolationist than ever.
