Organized Crime in Africa: UOB Hosts Strategic Deliberations
Faced with the lightning evolution of mafia networks on the continent, experts gather at Omar Bongo University to bolster response strategies.
L ibreville is set to become, on March 26 and 27, 2026, the epicenter of a top-tier strategic reflection. Initiated by CERDIP and CERGEP, in partnership with the French Embassy, Omar Bongo University is hosting an international symposium titled: "Organized Crime in Africa: Actors, Dynamics, and Stakes." This gathering brings together academics, magistrates, and experts to decrypt the increasing sophistication of criminal networks.
Within the framework of the 5th Republic, this event aims to examine the mechanisms behind the establishment and expansion of illicit activities. The sessions will explore the links between state threats, terrorist risks, and cybercrime. Particular attention will be paid to economic crime, notably tax fraud and the financing of armed groups, which represent major challenges for our current judicial systems.
The second day will delve deeper into institutional responses and the realities of prison environments. The Attorney General of the Libreville Judicial Court of Appeal will speak on the applicable special procedures. Bridging theory and practice, this high-level panel aims to formulate concrete recommendations to strengthen cross-border cooperation and protect natural resources against poaching.
Through this initiative, UOB confirms its role as a strategic hub. This symposium serves as an essential platform to rethink legal instruments and consolidate judicial responses to a constantly mutating phenomenon. The stakes are crucial for guaranteeing security and the Rule of Law across the continent.
