The Head of State Launches the New Digital Driver's License
Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema launches a secure biometric title to combat fraud and modernize driver management.
G abon is embarking on a turning point in the digitalization of its public services with the launch of the digital driver's license in Libreville. By enrolling himself, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema symbolizes an ambitious reform based on advanced technologies such as QR codes and NFC chips. The stated objective: to secure titles, improve the tracking of violations, and sanitize the national driver database. However, real effectiveness will depend on the ability to deploy infrastructure, avoid technical malfunctions, and guarantee accessibility for all users.
Gabon is reaching a historic milestone in the digitalization of its administration. On March 24, the President of the Republic, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, officially launched the production operation for the digital driver's license in Libreville. By undergoing the enrollment process himself, the Head of State marked the birth of a next-generation biometric transport title, a pillar of the modernization strategy driven by the 5th Republic.
This new document, equipped with a QR code and an NFC chip, integrates advanced security technologies to definitively eradicate fraud and the falsification of titles. Beyond its security dimension, this digital license allows for rigorous tracking of infractions and a global sanitization of the national driver database. This reform, led by the Ministry of Transport, aims to provide users with a smoother, more transparent service that complies with international road safety standards.
To support this rollout, several enrollment centers have been opened across Greater Libreville. Holders of old licenses now have a six-month deadline to comply with this new standard. The cost of the card is set at 10,000 FCFA for category B, payable exclusively via electronic means. By placing innovation at the heart of public action, Gabon reaffirms its digital sovereignty and its commitment to more effective governance for the benefit of its citizens.
