President Oligui Nguéma in Conclave with his ECCAS Peers in a Videoconference Conclave
The ECCAS Heads of State held the 8th Extraordinary Session of the Economic Community of Central African States via video conference this Monday, December 3, 2025.
P resident Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma took part via video conference in the 8th Extraordinary Session of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), chaired by His Excellency Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. This major meeting allowed the member states to conduct an in-depth assessment of political and security progress in the region.
At the heart of the discussions, Gabon was commended for the remarkable success of its political transition, reflecting a rare stability in an often volatile regional context. Similarly, Cameroon was recognized for holding a peaceful electoral process, a crucial indicator for democratic consolidation in Central Africa.
However, the session also highlighted persistent challenges. Some countries still need to strengthen their democratic achievements to ensure effective and legitimate governance. Major concerns involve the security situation in Chad, where latent tensions continue to threaten peace, as well as in the North Kivu region, marked by recurrent armed conflicts.
On the sensitive issue of Rwanda's return to ECCAS, President Oligui Nguéma acknowledged the establishment of a mediation committee. He insisted on the need for an internal approach, based on solidarity between member states, aimed at sustainably preventing and managing crises. This approach reflects the collective ambition of ECCAS to promote robust preventive diplomacy, essential for the peace, stability, and harmonious development of the people of Central Africa.
This 8th Extraordinary Session thus reveals a renewed commitment by member states to consolidate the political and security foundations of the region, in a context marked by complex but hopeful challenges.
