O n November 28, H.E. Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, President of the Republic, Head of State, and Head of Government, received a joint delegation from the Setrag and Eramet companies. This crucial meeting aimed to address several major issues concerning Gabonese rail transport.
The discussions highlighted the worrying financial situation of Setrag, a key operator of the Gabonese rail network. The delegation emphasized the urgent need to review the State's shareholding in order to ensure better governance and more effective involvement of public authorities. Another essential point raised concerned the guarantee of an effective contribution of the revenue generated by Setrag to the Public Treasury, a primordial element for supporting national economic development. Furthermore, the participants debated the overhaul of the economic model of rail transport, which is essential to adapt the system to the current and future realities of the Gabonese market.
At the end of this audience, President Oligui Nguema gave instructions to constitute an inter-ministerial group tasked with re-examining the convention linking the State to Setrag. This approach aims to establish modernized, transparent governance in line with the strategic interests of Gabon.
